A friend of mine was hit by a car one year and 11 months ago in the state of CT. She was 17 at the time and had just been emancipated about 3 days before the incident (and thus had not gotten medical insurance at the time). She crossed at an intersection (there were no crosswalks within sight) and a car going about 40-45 mph around a bend impacted her. There were no signs warning cars to reduce speed around bend. She was walking with a friend who witnessed the entire scene and is willing to testify. At time of accident she was bleeding from the head. She sustained several serious injuries including severe scarring in her leg, a gash to the bone on her eyebrow, and head, back, and neck pain related to the accident. She had a lawyer but he dropped her case due to a misfiling on the police report which says she did not look both ways when crossing the street (THIS IS NOT TRUE). Her lawyer believed because of this they will not win case. What can she do now?
The medical bills from the accident are roughly equivalent to almost 30,000 dollars and she was unable to work for six months following incident. She was also unable to walk for several months without assistance.
