My child was injured almost 3 years ago while playing at a neighbors house. My neighbors child did something that caused injury to my daughter. Our friends did not offer any assistance with out of pocket medical expenses and we did not want to cause a feud by asking for finacial help so we've been bearing the costs alone. Their child was not hurt in any way. My child will need from time to time(life span), medical care from the accident because disfigurement.
We are now more conscious of the expense this has all caused and we would like some reimbursement/compensation without "feuding with the neighbors". I looked online that we are within the states time frame for filing personal injury suit, I want to stay out of court though. I've saved all the medical statements. If we bring the issue up with the neighbors, do they call their insurance company directly to make a claim so we can have a settlement for our daughter or do we have to call a lawyer first. When I think of lawyers and courts, I just think of big feuds. I'd like to avoid all of this. Any suggestions on how to go about this would be much appreciated. Do you think it's too late to do something about this now?
I do know their insurance company. If we contact the insurance company ourselves, I suppose we just give them thier street address, copies of medical statements including the emergency department copy of care recieved after the accident. Do you think the will work with us without a huge legal fuss?
