i was leaving a restaurant/bar when a group of men attacked the small group I was with. I received a broken jaw and finger. As well have had a number of other injuries. I have trouble remembering things and I am having a great deal of pain in my neck. My jaw was screwed and wired together and the pain has been great. My friend had his eye socket crushed and his skull fractured. The place we were at operates under a resort license. This requires them, under Mississippi guidelines, to provide security outside the business. They failed to do so and in fact witnessed the event and took no action to stop it. I am wondering what my first action should be in preparing a lawsuit, aside from contacting a lawyer? A police report has been filed both by myself and my friend. I have tonight begun emailing lawyers, as I cannot speak yet. Does this sound like a viable case and if so what do these cases settle for normally? Any information would be greatly appreciated. I would also like any links to web related information you may have. Thank you.
let me be more clear. The law states that they have to provide security. There is no if and or about it. They were liable as they did not secure the parking lot. i don't need to know if I have a case I guess. I would like to know more what my next step is in preparing for a case.
