I'd like to find out, in general, how many people (or % per year) have what can be called a claim-worthy occurance in their lives that should be looked at by a lawyer. How does that compare to the numbers of people who actually do go out and get a laywer or do anything at all that would constitute "filing a claim" in any area of law like personal injury or workers' comp or any other "important" area. I'm trying to exclude things like traffic tickets and such because most people can handle this on their own, without necessarily getting a lawyer involved. Are there a lot of people who, for one reason or another, don't file a claim and don't get a lawyer despite the fact that they may have a good/worthy claim to make? What could be the reasons for this? Also, if anyone has any web (or print) sources where such general law statistics information can be obtained, I'd really appreciate a link to some source where I can do more research.
Looking for statistics for the United States only!
